Careers for Mathematicians

The best attended event I have been to! Thoroughly enjoyed it and spoke to relevant and interested candidates.

Description: This event takes place in Cambridge University's award-winning Centre for Mathematical Sciences and runs alongside a separate event, Careers in Quantitative Finance, in basement rooms.

Open To: Recruiters whose opportunities have mathematical or statistical content sufficiently challenging to attract able mathematicians, and where recruitment would normally be mainly from that discipline or physics (e.g. actuarial work, cryptography, forecasting, complex modelling, operational research, computational fluid dynamics, meteorology, signal processing etc).

Important Information: We seek to offer our students as wide a range of opportunities as possible, so even though the event is expanding, space at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences will still be limited. We may have to decline bookings to avoid over-representation of a sector. We hope that organisations who have not been successful in obtaining a place will be sympathetic to these aims.

Cost: £450+VAT. (Please read our booking terms and conditions).

Stand: Due to space restrictions no display stands or other floor-standing equipment are permitted, we also do not allow laptops or other A/V equipment. A table will be provided.

Representatives: Three representatives per pitch is the permitted maximum. Please note that representatives at this event should predominantly be those who are working in posts with a high mathematical or statistical content. Students attending this event particularly benefit from talking to like-minded individuals rather than to HR professionals. These students often do not visit our more general careers events.

Extra Info: Light refreshments provided.

2017 Careers for Mathematicians Event Attendance: While not every student was scanned into the event we are able to say that over 577 attended. Of the sample group scanned 72% were undergraduate, 25% were postgraduate, 2% returner. The vast majority of students were from the Mathematical Tripos. 391 of the students whom attended this event also attended the Careers in Quantitative Finance Event (held at the same time and venue).
