Careers support for Cambridge University staff

Much of the information and expertise of the Careers Service is focussed solely on current and recent Cambridge graduates and junior researchers for their first move into graduate-level entry opportunities. However, there are number of resources we offer that might be useful to all staff of the University, whatever level and role you're working in and whatever employment sector you're aiming to join.

If you currently work for the University and want to develop your career by seeking opportunities outside, the Careers Service can help with the following…

  • All members of staff (with an @cam email address) can register onto our website. There you will find vacancy listings for graduate-level roles. You can use the employer's email addresses and websites of local (and national) organisations to make a speculative approach. You will also find advice on networking skills, making successful applications and being interviewed.
  • We run a dozen major events each year, including Cam Connect - an event for local employers held in February each year. Our major events are listed each term in our website diary and University staff are welcome to visit the event, talk to employers and see if they have suitable opportunities at an appropriate level to your skills and experience. If attending, please bring your University card to gain admission.
  • Finding work in Cambridgeshire: information on the type of work commonly available in the Cambridge region, both technical and non-technical
  • Staff can visit the Careers Service - here you will find reference material and takeaway publications covering specific career areas, advice on reaching career choice decisions and also the skills required to secure employment. We stock many professional publications and journals with job vacancy sections. We also have a file of independent careers consultants and 'life coaches' and other sources of external, professional help if needed.
  • Graduate members of staff who are not alumni of Cambridge University can also book an appointment with a careers adviser outside of Michaelmas Full Term (October - November).

If you are a graduate of Cambridge University, you should register as alumni as we are able to offer alumni a range of one-to-one sessions with one of our team of careers advisers. The only limitation on this is that during Michaelmas Term (October - November) we are unable to offer appointments to alumni who graduated more than two years ago due to the high demand for appointments within the current student population at that point every year.
