26th Sept, 2pm. How to Pick a Career

An interactive session introducing you to tools and strategies to help you consider what you want from your future career and start narrowing down options.

Are you just getting starting with career planning? Thinking about what you want from a future career? Exploring your options and unsure where to start? This workshop is for you! In this session we will: -Provide an overview of what Cambridge graduates do next -Outline the key steps to career planning -Support you to explore what you want from a career through interactive exercises -Signpost to a range of sources to support your career exploration

27th Sept, 1pm. Getting Started with the Careers Service

An opportunity to learn more about how we can support you and the wealth of resources we have on offer. 

This session is for anyone who wants to know more about how the Careers Service can support you, whatever stage you are in career thinking. We will introduce you to key resources to help you with career planning, learning more about career options, making effective applications or succeeding in recruitment processes.

28th Sept, 3.30. Effective CVs

Top tips and advice to help you brush up your CV ready for when you see that ideal job ad. 

This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to learn how to create a CV with impact, whether applying for spring week opportunities, internships or your first graduate role. A CV is often the first thing an employer sees in the selection process - and in a competitive jobs market you need to make an impact.

In this session you will:

  • Explore what it takes to make your CV `stand out` 
  • Compare different styles of CV and how they can be used 
  • Get advice on how to tailor your CV to your search 
  • Discuss common concerns in CV writing

29th Sept, 3.30pm. Smart Job Searching

If you’re looking to make your search for internships, work experience or grad jobs more efficient, join this session for lots of tips and tricks!

Are you looking for a job or internship and not finding what you're looking for? Perhaps you feel you need to refresh your job search or find some new sources of opportunities? This session shares with you some of the most useful resources geared towards job searching, with tips on how to use them effectively, helping you to make your search more efficient.

Whilst we cover the basics, you may find this session useful to cast a wider net and source more opportunities than you are currently finding.

Resources include: Using social media, people & networking, using websites & jobs boards effectively and utilising the media & careers events. There is a discussion on the 'hidden job market' and adapting your career planning as circumstances change.

30th Sept, 11am. Making the Most of Careers Fairs Q&A

This year we’re running a mix of in-person and virtual careers fairs to help you meet employers and learn more about the opportunities on offer. Come along to this session with your questions, to help you get prepared and get advice from our Careers Consultants.

The virtual Q&A session gives those planning to attend any (virtual or in person) careers fair this Autumn a chance to get advice on how to make the most of the event. Topics that can be covered as part of the Q&A:

  • Tips on engaging with employers in person or virtually
  • Types of questions to ask an employer to help decision making
  • Building a professional profile online ready for a recruiter
  • How to research an employer ready for a fair 
  • How to feel your best when talking with employers 
  • ….anything on your mind!
